The Qatari Forum for Authors within the Weekly Initiative “Critics and What They Analyze”, which is supervised and managed by Dr. Abdulhak Belabed, Professor of Literature Issues and Critical and Comparative Studies at Qatar University, hosted Monday evening Dr. Muhammad Salem Saad Allah, Professor of Modern Literature at the University of Mosul in Iraq, to discuss “From Literary Criticism to Cognitive Criticism”, and the session was broadcast on the YouTube channel.
Dr. Saad Allah said that the project of the philosophical foundations of poststructural criticism is a project of life that revealed many critical secrets related to the relationship of criticism with many sciences and that it required an extraordinary effort that went through the doors of criticism for decades.
And his imprint on this path was the authoring of three dictionaries, the first was related to structural terms, a glossary of media names and a glossary of terms related to this field, explaining that the project started from the totality of the relationships that link criticism and literature on the one hand, and literature and philosophy on the other hand, and between criticism and other sciences. On the third side, to show the place that philosophical occupies in criticism, and to clarify the imbalance of unbalanced Western critical propositions.
He emphasized that after a long journey in research, he concluded that criticism that does not have a philosophy from which to base it does not possess the foundations for its survival. Philosophy represents its foundation and the condition for its continuation.
And that the different critical methods are in dialogue with each other and entered into the life cycle of the critical approach that lives the same cycle of the life of living organisms, which is a logical cycle of scientific knowledge, and it has been found that the great Western critics reach a stage that reveals all its papers and becomes unable to present what is new in critical analysis.
The critical journey through ancient times was related to philosophy, stressing that he had reached a new school of criticism, which is epistemic criticism based on terms and philosophical thought.
He added that criticism needs to be correct and continuously updated, and academic criticism does not provide students and researchers with anything that enriches them in revealing the secrets of scientific trends. The current stereotypes need to be reformulated, and this is what is called the term post-academic criticism, and it is in the process of formulating a research in this field that talks about monetary development, considering that criticism does not accept constancy.
In his researches, he depended on the operational theory of the Jerjani, which he considers a global mentality par excellence, and a race to theorize for the epistemic criticism that dealt with the signifier and the signified as data to enter the framework of the analysis,
And he confirmed the existence of a relationship between the interlinked arts, and called upon those wishing to study semiotics in the Arab critical fields to return to the ancient Arab critical data that are still virgin in order to benefit from semiotic lessons with modern tools to uncover hidden secrets.
He added that he started his project in cognitive criticism since reading Al-Jarjani’s research and began to establish it, and data emerged that led him to talk about a systematic system that relies on cognitive paths. Cognitive criticism is a comprehensive, wide and extended criticism that accommodates various critical fields on a cognitive basis and is a future critical path due to scientific methodology, and it does not stop at a specific field, but rather melts all into one melting pot, so it has capabilities that herald a large amount of critical knowledge that expands the knowledge of the critics.
Perception in this school is based on previous knowledge and from scientific references and the researcher, requests a cognitive support, but this is for criticism that is still in the process of working and developing its tools. He presents an idiomatic effort by creating weaknesses in various types of criticism and reinforcing them with systematic critical measures.
The various previous critical approaches depended on a political methodology, from which cognitive criticism has benefited and built upon it a holistic vision to show the aesthetic of the statement in the text while including other data that depend on its cultural and social reference.
